They say that all good things come to an end, and so it is with our Cuban jaunt. A bus from Vinales had us back in the capital early evening on August 4, and upon our arrival we again decided to go upmarket with our accommodation. The Hotel Victoria even had a restaurant with a vegetarian menu, but we did not notice this on the first night, and ended up eating pizza at a nearby TV-themed restaurant. Perhaps I should clarify that. Tony ate pizza; Clare ate pizzas. The prices were ridiculously cheap, but by this stage we were getting used to this.

Of course our temporary outing from the hotel coincided with the nightly tropical storm and downpour, and we once again had to dash through the rivers-previously-known-as-streets to get back afterwards. All part of a Cuban summer's day.

This left us one free day in Havana. In the morning we embarked on an unplanned and very long walking tour of the city, trying to find a post office from which to send various gifts and personal effects back to Australia. Three hours and three post offices later, we had found such a place, only to learn that the contents (mostly cigars) were not allowed to be sent by mail, and we would have to take the whole lot back to Mexico with us. (We later had the same problem in Mexico, and since Clare was bound for the USA, where the possession of anything Cuban is a crime, the whole lot eventually made it to Australia as Tony's cabin baggage.)

Fortunately our forced tour of Havana revealed many interesting sights, and included a visit to John Lennon Park and a ride home in a Cococab. In the evening we found a bar with live music, and somehow afterwards we ended up in the middle of a huge teenage rave party before escaping back to our room.

We rose early the following morning to take a rather provocative photo of ourselves on the main street of Havana wrapped in the Cuban flag before, alas, it was time to head for the airport and to leave this amazing country. Next time we stay in Cuba for much longer than 8 days!
