5th August 2005.

The morning was free due to the skydive yesterday (and Sarah was still grinning from ear to ear) so we went to see Huka falls, spent some time around the thermal springs and went fishing for prawns. What a waste of money that was. Didn't catch a thing. We think the pond was empty where we fished but who knows. We then popped into a honey store to try lots of free samples (well it beats paying for it) before heading off to waitomo caves.

We arrived in the afternoon and found out that we could get onto a trip there and then so we paid for the Black Labryinth tour with the Legendary Black Water Rafting co. We managed to squeeze into the wetsuits before heading down to stream where we were fitted for our rubber tubes. We took a leap off a deck in order to check the tubes were the right size and dove into nice, freezing cold water, before getting out again and walking to the entrance of the cave. We spent about an hour under the earth, scrambling through the darkness and wetness. We went through waterlogged caverns, jumped off rocks, floated along passages and got to see a massive amount of glowworms on the roof of the cave. It was impressive. We got out of the water after floating back to the van which took us back to base for a hot shower and soup. We thoroughally enjoyed it. We went back to the cave exit later that night for a walk, spotting more glowworms in the rock face around us. magic.
