26th July 2005

Waking up with a little bit of a muggy head due to the alcohol consumed, we took a trip out to Glenorchy. It took a bloody age to get there, and once there we didn't see anything. Apparently a lot of the LOTR was filmed there, but who knows. A lot of people pay a fortune to go on a LOTR safari and go and see the areas that had things digitally printed onto them. Strange. On the LOTR however, you can see why Peter Jackson used NZ for it. The scenery is like something out of a fairy tale. Bit of digital whatyamacallit and boom, you have middle earth. Anyway, we managed a breakfast at Glenorchy before heading up to Wanaka. We stopped off to watch those fools jump off a bridge at the AJ Hackett bungy site. Crazy. Not convinced to try it just yet and we then moved on to Wanaka. We stopped off at puzzle world on the outskirts of there and spent the afternoon in the maze, which we thought sounded good, but after about 10 minutes and crossing the same bridge 15 times, we thought better of it. We eventually found our way out and went into the exhibition area seeing holograms, magic eye things, a room where faces follow you around no matter where you stand, and also a room that makes big people small and vice versa. One room seemed to be on a 45 degree slope but was still level. We couldn't work it out either. We drove into Wanaka, saw some Irish people jumping into the freezing cold lake there screaming hat his bits were going to fall off before we found a campsite just outside the place. We spent the evening in a "locals" pub where we met another person who used to live in the uk. There are no new zealanders here, just ex-pats.
