26th December 2004

Well the two that we met in Tunisisa have turned up, Dom and Martine landed on Boxing day and caused me and Sarah tobe up at another ungodly hour of 5am. We met them at the airport after their long flight, then took them to their hotel at Rushcuters Bay. We made our way, albeit absolutely knackered (them from jetlag, us from getting up at a stupid time) onwards to Mrs Maquarie's point in order to see the annual Sydney to Hobart yacht race. We sat there for an hour, in the baking sunshine, waiting to see the boats pass. Turned out that we'd sat there for no reason at all as the boats had come nowhere near us. Granted there were around 100 people also in this position so we weren't the only muppets there. If we'd have stayed at Rushcutters then we would have had a perfect view of the boats setting off! Sods law. We went back to Dom and Martines hotel, where they gave us gifts from home, and even gave us a little christmas cake from Sainsbury's. Perfect. That night we took them to the opera bar, so they could experience the same feeling we did when arriving on Sydney on our first day. Needless to say they were impressed with the views.

28th December 2004

After a few lazy days, allowing Dom and Martine to recover from jetlag, we took them around the city and showed them Darling Harbour. Dom also received a lesson in how to operate his new camera.

29th December 2004

Today we took a trip out to Manly. We packed a picnic and then caught the ferry from circular quay. The beach was nice, the perfect place to stop and have a picnic. Dom scared the locals away by going bare back, not a pretty sight. He still didn't tan. We stopped off for a drink at a hotel near the ferry after changing our mind about going to the aquarium at Manly. We changed our minds as it was shut.

30th December

We visited the Australian History Museum today. It was full of some weird and wonderful things that can only be found down under. Lots of bugs with pins in them. Dom was taken with a framed selection of beetles, but was put off by the fact that Martine ws buying up most of the gift shop. She was purchasing what Dom like to call TAT. There was a photographic exhibition on however, covering the Wildlife photography awards. There were categories for entrants as young as 10 there, and the pictures were magnificent. The winning shot was one of 2 sharks swimming through a school of fish, taking their fill. Amazing. It was then off home to prepare our New Years Eve banquet...........
