Monday the 22nd was once again spent looking for houses. Hostel is costing around $500 a week so we need to make some headway fast. We spent monday night at the William hotel where we joined the comedy trivia night. It wa a good laugh, and we met Catherine and Liz who were staying there. Later in the week we made our way to a few home viewings, one in Surrey Hills, which turned out to be in Redfern (a no go area). It just so happens that the house we were shown (after being kept waiting 2 hours) was used as a brothel only very recently. This meant that the walls were decorated pink and there was a shower in every room. We didn't fancy sleeping on the beds there so decided to pass the opportunity up. That night we wandered down to The Rocks, and managed to catch a free fireworks show. Spectacular.
On the home front we also saw a luxurious place in Sydney CBD (central business district) which had a pool, sauna, and gym that could be used. It was advertised at $135 per person, per week, however, when we went to see it, the price had gone up to $400. That was after we were asked how much we are paying in a hostel. Robbing buggers. After that we found one advertised in a travellers office in town, called the number, and arranged a viewing. The house was at Ultimo, just by Darling Harbour, and we fell for the place straight away. We decided to take it.
Meanwhile at the hostel.....we had a few guests join us on our travels. It seems that the room we changed to in the hostel already had guests staying in it. These guests were bed bugs. Sarah got off scott free where as I got bitten all down the left side of my body. Little red spots from the top of my head, all the way down to my feet. When we moved into the house today, the 29th, the landlady saw the bites and we had to put all our possession into black plastic bags and leave them in the sun all day. I ended up sitting outside the new house, for 7 hours, whilst our goods cooked in order to kill any bugs that had joined us. In the mean time Sarah was at the launderette, washing all clothes on a boil wash as to kill any bugs that had got into them. She had to go to K-mart and buy some clothes that we could temporarily wear until everything was washed and dried. Nightmare. What was worse, our first words to our housemates, Marie and Richie and Gillian and Aiden were:-

"Hi there, we are Tony and Sarah, pleased to meet you. By the way, if you start scratching or itching in the next few days its because we have brought bed bugs as a moving in gift."

Fortunately we got rid of them all.
