We moved on from Boomerang Backpackers on the 19th to spend the night at Coogee. We did the Coogee to Bondi beach walk which took us around 2 hours. The scenery was great, walking by an old clifftop cemetary, then onto Bronte beach, passing a few other coves on the way before we hit the legendary Bondi beach. First impressions of Bondi were:- Blackpool without the theme park. The place was so full of Irish and English, as well as housing lots of discount surf and souvenir shops. We grabbed a cab back to Coogee and carried on looking for a place to live. The day after we decided to move back to the city again. Sydney wasn't going well. By the end of the week we were unhappy, having realised this place was expensive, there was nothing in the way of short term housing, and it was bloody cold compared to where we had just come from. To cheer up we went to the cinema, but ended up watching a film about death, final cut with Robin Williams in it. Good film, but not the feel good factor we were looking for. The weekend went better, we happened across stage's being erected at the front of the opera house and ventured across to have a look. It turned out that the Australian Pop Idol final was being held today, so we got a prime position in the botanical gardens and thought we'd watch it. We were tiped off by a security guard that they may let us into the actual venue if we tried it, so we did, and we managed to blag our way into the Aussie idol final. We sat at the top of the opera house steps for 4 hours whilst the show went out live. It was a good laugh. We didn't have a clue who anyone was but it was good free entertainment. We also had a free firework show (and we got on tv, if you look hard enough that is....)
