We decided to do a day trip to Koh Phi-Phi. We were planning on going there for a few days, but Koh Lanta locals warned us off it, and suggested we take a trip instead. Glad we did. We found that the island was very small. You could literally get off the ferry, walk for 3 minutes, and be at the other beach on the other side of the island. Whats more the prices were a lot higher than Koh Lanta, and the place was packed to the rafters with travellers. You had to walk single file all over due to the flow of people. After an hour on the island we went on our day trip around it, taking in the pirates cave(not very good), doing a spot of snorkelling (and seeing a black tip reef shark), seeing the "Beach" (the one in the film with Leonardo Di Caprio) and monkey beach.
Monkey beach was as it sounded, a beach with lots of monkeys on it. Monkeys that like to drink "the real thing" rather than water. Tourists were just passing them food that we would eat. Not a very good thing to do. It turned out to be a really nice day out, and as it was our last day on Koh Lanta, it was then off to the pub with Team Sweden which was now about 30 strong in members. It was supposed to be a quiet night, but we drank heavily until around 2am and danced and sang until we felt our beach hut calling us. The best thing though is watching Swedish people dance to Abba. It does happen, and Marcus, if you are reading this, then you topped everyone. We got back, I passed out, then woke up at 5am with a start shouting "we need to pack". Sarah had in fact already done this, and also managed to throw yoghurt on her back to cool the sunburn she had got during the day out. A woman of many talents. We got up early on the 10th, headed to the ferry and left Koh Lanta. To get to Phuket, in our hungover state, we got a ferry to Koh Phi-Phi and then a connecting one to Phuket. What we didnt know was that you don't change ferries at the port in Thailand. You do it out at sea. We had to jump, and get luggage as well, onto another ferry in the middle of the ocean. One false move and we'd be done for. We made the leap of faith and arrived in Phuket. We spent the day wandering around, after checking into our hotel (which used to be an old hospital), and ended up having KFC as our last Thai meal. It was off to bed ready to rise for the plane to Kuala Lumpur in the morning. Goodbye Thailand.......We'll definitely be back.
