Where I stayed
Look up the word "Awesome" in a Fijian dictionary when it is connected to the word breakfast……hope the Awesome Adventures are better (see below)
Smugglers Cove appears to be a very lively place, wish we were here for another night.
Listen carefully when they say “Do you still want to go on the boat as there is a severe weather warning”…..Hels about to ask what alternatives were available but Tony said OK and was walking towards the boat!
Up at 6 for Awesome Brekkie,,,,cannot wait as starving after yesterdays travelling…
Choice was as follows:
- Cereals, fruit and toast
- 2 eggs any style with toast and grilled tomato which was missing from Tonys plate.
Coach arrived at 7.15am and off to Denarau Port to catch our boat, a fair sized catamaran.
Queued up to book in or Helen did. I went to help her of course just as she reached the front as some people where I was waiting were chatting about severe weather warnings which could make the trip a bit bumpy!! Look this up in that dictionary as well.
Settled start on the boat BUT we are travelling to the Northern most point of the Yasawa group of Fijian Islands some 5 hours on the boat, and stopping to drop off people and collect people from different islands
The Captains name was also Captain ASRE…hopefully spelt correctly!
We sat inside the boat so Hels having taken a mouthful of Stugereon travel sickness tablets could fall asleep. Worked well as weather deteriorated badly….but eventually we got off the ferry and landed on Tavewa Island at Coral View resort.
Nice welcome by all staff and a nice lunch where we sat with Natalie and Clive ( Olive from Poole ). This couple and Emily from Norwich were our companions in the bad weather to follow……….
After lunch we were told by the resorts owner that …..
“There is a severe weather warning which has now been given a name …
Shown to room which had a pyramid roof of wood and corrugated steel construction. Rainwater showers, no towels, no shampoo…so back to basics. $pm afternoon tea and cake so things looking up. Due to have a cave trip tomottow but already called off due to weather.
After tea Hels had another nap in chair in the lounge, having nearly read one page of her book. Tony outside seeing if it is possible to use a hammock strung between two trees in a force 10 gale blowing directly off the sea….the answer is just about but it is not very comfortable being sand blasted and swung about like a Matadors cape.
Dinner and a few beers with our new friends Nat, Olive and Emily. Then two icebreaking dances/games organised by the staff. One was a conger with staff member at one end and Tony at the other (surprised aren't you). When the conger changed direction the whole conger had to follow the lead of the person in the front…..good game but finished just as Tony was about to take his top off and swing it about over his head to see how many followed his example…..should have done it earlier!!
Off to bed and wind picking up just a bit!!
