Allo!
I'm in the A lands now finally. I'm actually not in Mariehamn (main port), I'm on Kiruna which is a lot further from everything than I realised (won't even register on this travel sight). I took the 6 hour ferry from Turku. Arrived in Mariehamn and spent two hours there waiting for a bus which would be the next leg of the journey to my hostel. It arrived and it took an hour before it reached Hummelvik (tip of the main island). Then took the one hour ferry to Kumlinge. That was quite lovely. Got here at 1930 (still sunny) and found it was 8km to hostel. So I tried hitchiking (mum don't read!). She was a really nice lady and it would have been a really long way when you're carrying a 14kg backpack and you're already tired. It's a really nice place here and they speak swedish not Finnish. In fact the A Lands has their own culture and very few speak Finnish. It's a beautiful area, mum and dad you'd love it! The place is excellent because I'm the only one here. Everything to myself! Ha! I've enjoyed myself more today because there was more to see and more of the unknown, and hitchiking was fun (even though it was only a small journey and I recognised her from the ferry). Still! Anyway I'm taking a communal cab back to mariehamn to cycle before moving on to stockholm hopefully shortly.
