It was an early start!  We were ready to go at 8, hoping to avoid traffic.  Our ride to The Tail of the Dragon took us through the Foothill Parkway.  It was a very nice ride - long sweeping turns.  The road itself was new - in fact we haven't been on any bad roads.  It was uneventful getting to The Tail - and as you will see in the pictures, the Smoky's are true to their name.  The Foothill Parkway connects 321 with 129 - where the Dragon begins.  OMG!!!!!  I was holding on for dear life.  There were signs like "switchback turns" that warned you of what was ahead.  The Whip was one of those.  It was such a sharp turn, the road came back "atcha".  There's a video attached which I took on our way north.  The first time we slayed the Dragon going south.
Check the names of some of the turns.  Really creative!  When we arrived at Deals Gap we took some pictures of the Tree of Shame, a Can Am with the American flag honoring the fallen, and Reagan - the terrier.  Reagan is only 2 but he has been to Alaska, the Artic Circle and done the perimeter of the United States and has NEVER asked "are we there yet?"
After leaving the Tail of the Dragon, which by the way straddles Tennesee and North Carolina, we drove through Pigeon Forge.  Definitely a tourist trap - even closed.  Dollywood isn't open on Thursdays.  We got back around 2:30, tired and hot.  It was 93 degrees in Gatlinburg.  Kev, Larry and Sandy are sore tonight.  All three have swollen hands - from holding the trikes on the road, clutching and braking.  They did the Dragon in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears.  We saw a lot of Can Am's and BMW's.  It's like motorcycle heaven in this area.  There are more motorcycles than cars.  Hope you enjoy the ride on the Dragon and today's pictures.
Tomorrow we start for home.  Hopefully the weather holds out till we get back to Cleveland.
