We left Asheville at a little past nine since we knew we had to get back on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  What a beautiful morning we had to ride.  Crisp and sunny.  We didn't use our heated gear but definitely layered up.  As it was, the ride from Asheville to Gatlinburg only took 2 1/2 hrs.  The first few pictures are of the parkway.  The rest are of the Smokey Mts.  Since yesterday, we've felt as if we're out west with all the views of the mts.  Simply stunning!  There's more vegetation here than out west, obviously.  But the trout stream /creek was as inviting as any you will find west of the Mississippi.
In today's ride through the parkway, we didn't encounter any bicyclists - which I forgot to mention yesterday - too tired to think.  I remember thinking at the time that the bicyclists must be training for an Iron Man triathlon or the Tour de France.  PHEW!!  Today, there were probably 3 times more motorcycles.  There were also a few motor homes towing cars.  Not a good idea what with all the corkscrew curves.  There was a sign we'd never seen before - it was an almost complete circle signifying a turn.  One of the cars, just after a tunnel, lost it's contact with the tow vehicle.  We came upon them quickly which was scary.
Another phenomenon,  which was breathtaking, was the Alleghany Christmas Tree Association in Va.  They were planted on hills in perfectly straight lines.  The patterns were so neat.  The trees went on for miles and miles.  Awesome!!
Today we took the tramway up the mt. - 3,600 elevation.  As you can see from the pictures, people have no problem building homes on the side of mts.
For our more mature followers and those who've heard the stories:
1.  Kev bought 3 bottles of NeHi - orange, grape and cherry ( he's hanging onto the orange for a special occasion)
2.  WE BOUGHT MOONSHINE!!!!!  When we walked into the "store", they gave us samples.  Boy is that shit strong.  Found out the more it's distilled, the smoother it gets.  I think I'll start drinking it instead of vodka!!
Tomorrow we are going to SLAY THE DRAGON - 318 TURNS IN 11 MILES
3.  Larry finally got his scotch.
4.  No Pappy bourbon for Scott - yet.
