On Monday we were reunited with our host Brit who put us up in Willmington, she lived in Tallahasee and agreed to put us up again on our way to NOLA. Having had 4 mad days in Miami, we were happy to let our livers recover and get back in touch with nature for a while. We took the canoe out on the big Tallahasee river with promise of seeing an array of wildlife. Having a marine biologist/animal expert with us was pretty handy in letting us know what could potentially kill us or not.

Our first encounter with an Alligator came only a few minutes in, snarling nostrils and piercing eyes, the noise they made was so distinctive, you could always hear them before seeing them. We bravely paddled past the beast. Further down the river were harmless turtles, birds and fish. In all honesty the most offensive creatures on the river were the rednecks in their pickup trucks and confederate flag swimming costumes

We set up dock by turning off the river into somewhat of a cove, called "Big Blue". This was the springhead of the river, and went down almost a 100ft, what was more amazing was that you could see right to the bottom as it was crystal clear. This wasn't the 'gators favourite habbitat and we were reassured swimming and snorkeling would be fine. I did however see some monstrous fish and hovered above a baby Alligator, which with for lack of a better word, was quite cute!

We had planned on a night out, but the exhaustion from paddling and the 36 degree heat meant that talk of a night on the town was dissmissed pretty fast. We settled for watching Jurasic Park and nursing our sunburn.
