We spent the start of our last day in the U.S.A. having breakfast with a group of World War II or Korean War Veterans who live in the community.  These men meet each Friday morning and drive to one of two favourite cafes.  It was fun watching the camaraderie and chipping between these old friends.

Back at Bill and Dorothy's we spent some more time on family history then were amazed that we managed to fit everything into our suitcases.  They were very heavy but we didn't have to use the small bag Ruth had packed for overflow.

Bill drove us to the airport, stopping on the way for a "light" dinner - we do not think such a meal actually exists in America.  We arrived at the airport in plenty of time.  This was fortunate as checking in was a zoo.  Since Tom is a member of the Qantas Club we stood in a relatively short line/queue to check in.  We then stood in another short line with all our luggage to hand over our checked-in bags for security scanning.  Next it was our turn to go through Security after standing in yet another line, having removed our shoes and belt and taken the PC out of its case.  Finally we could go to the Qantas Club, which for some inexplicable reason was up two flights of stairs.  We suspect that most people did not enjoy lugging their hand luggage up these stairs.  We looked for the duty free shopping and can now assure everyone that it is much smarter to wait until Melbourne which has significantly cheaper goods and much greater variety.  Hopefully we'll remember this if there is a next time for us.
