We loved our time at Lake Louise.  It was certainly the White Christmas Tom wanted as well as being a delightful place to stay.

This morning we packed again and caught a bus to Banff where we had booked a Hertz rental car.  Tom had indulged himself by booking a Volvo so Ruth was surprised when we were given a dirty Ford Explorer, which is a large SUV; quite different!

The roads have been well cleared of snow falls.  As we dropped out of the mountains the snow cover was much less and once we were on the Alberta plains there was only a smattering of snow around.  Tom had no trouble driving though he didn't drive as fast as some other driers who we are sure were breaking the speed limit.

But it's still cold.

On our way out of Calgary we saw a man staggering across the road then falling over at the roadside.  We pulled over, as did three other drivers.  We were pleasantly surprised that so many stopped.  Tom and the other three men went to the man, who was seriously drunk.  The next surprising thing was that Tom was the only one with a cell / mobile phone so he got to make his first 911 call.  One of the other men volunteered to wait for the response to the 911 call so we continued on our way to Fort MacLeod.

We reached our destination about 16:30, as the sun set.  We have a motel room, which is quiet (most important with motels), warm and basically comfortable.  We ate at a local restaurant, Johnny's Restaurant, which offered both Western and Chinese food.  The other option, a hotel, sounded too noisy when we checked it out.
