After time out to do a load of washing, we again headed for DC; and the National Archives. Here Ruth found that the cart load of dusty boxes that were the result of her request had no information of any interest to us. So she ordered 5 more sets of data which was ready after lunch. Ruth now has a better understanding of how the U.S kept light house records in the early 1900s. She even thinks that most times being a lighthouse keeper could have been boring. This is based on the lighthouse logs she scanned; where the majority of entries said "nothing important" as the events of the day. Other periods consisted of pages of columns filled with alphabetical characters. She didn't work out what these characters represented as she couldn't see how that knowledge would help the quest. Other records were of the pay scales for all employees in the U.S. But no reference to "our man". So, feeling tired, we caught another peak hour train back to the comfort of our current abode.
