Today Ruth decided that the muscle strain she'd incurred in Charleston was not getting better and was impeding our walking around sightseeing, so we went to the local hospital this morning where she was given Ibuprofen and Hydrocodone - miracle workers as she already feels much better and can almost walk properly up and down stairs - something we are doing a lot of. In the afternoon we took a trolley tour. The guide moved to New Bern about 18 months ago and is an enthusiastic, knowledgeable advocate of her new home. There appears to be a strong Historical group who buy homes, restore them, sometimes moving them so a new building can be erected on their original block. Some homes have been moved up to 4 times.
We soon learned that one of New Bern's claims to fame is that it is where Pepsi-Cola came into being. A local pharmacist developed and manufactured it to encourage customers. Not surprisingly it looks to be impossible to buy Coca-Cola here.
