Our first stop was a quick return visit to The National Library to look at four books Ruth had ordered. These books were fascinating but of no personal relevance.  They listed the Acts of Parliament for the years 1800, 1810 and 1820.  We saw the Act to join England and Ireland as well as ones to allow individual men to divorce, or to allow specific bridges to be built.  The range in what the Acts covered, from incredibly important to the mundane, was illuminating.

We spent the rest of the day at the General Register Office (GRO) actually finding a few records for Tom's family though Ruth did relate it to betting.  You search, find a likely record, pay your €4.00 for a photocopy of the registry entry and are either pleased or not.  Either way you keep searching, pay your next €4.00 and hope you "win" the next time.  There are even limits to what you can “bet” as you can only buy 5 photocopies a day.  With two of us, that meant we could only order 10 but we could keep searching and find more possibilities to apply for on another day.  We left when the office closed at 16:30.

In the evening we went to Mulligan’s to have drinks with James O’Dea, the Chairman of the Dysert O’Dea Clan.  Mulligan’s is an old atmospheric pub in what was the newspaper area and we spent an enjoyable couple of hours there.  On the way home we grabbed a sandwich for dinner!
