Where I stayed
The Hotel had posted signs suggesting that between 07:00 – 08:30 was the quiet time to have breakfast on Sunday. So we took notice and arrived at about 07:40; as, it seemed, did most of the other hotel guests. By the time we left after a leisurely time, including reading the day's papers, the dining room was very quiet.
We are now pretty good at packing so we left in plenty of time. We were pleased that the hotel had thought to bring our car around so it was ready for us. We had left it in the hotel’s valet parking service while in Belfast.
The weather was unbelievable, in the low 20s and balmy. We set the TomTom to take us to Tara via Kells. We walked around Kells which seems to be yet another struggling village. The village has a copy of the Books of Kells but, being Sunday, the building was closed so we couldn’t see it. We intend to see it while in Dublin.
Tara had been recommended to us by a friend and we were delighted we went there. We watched an introductory video then walked around the site. It is so old and reminded Ruth of the first time she went to Stonehenge, when tourists could still walk around and even touch the stones.
We then drove into Dublin and after a few wrong turns found the Brooks Hotel with double yellow lines on the road outside it. We quickly unloaded then drove to the car park recommended by the receptionist – that took more than a few wrong turns! We intend to leave the car there and either walk around Dublin or use public transport. Our hotel is in Drury Street and is very central. It also has free Internet access in the room which we really appreciate.
We went for a walk, joining hundreds of others in the area. However when we decided about 20:00 it was time for dinner we found a few cafes had already closed their kitchens. We will be more careful in future.
