Today was a pleasant sunny day which we mostly spent indoors at the Society of Genealogists. We left the apartment before 10:00 and caught a tube from Kew Gardens. Two more tube trains plus two bus rides and 1 hour 45 minutes later we reached our destination. We had not factored in "working on the Underground" over the weekend. The Circle line was completely closed and others partially. Other times this trip takes almost an hour. Tom spent our day at the Society working of his will extracts data while Ruth spent it finding nothing, that is no baptism, marriage or burial records where she hoped they would be. She now knows where they were not born, etc. This in no way gives her any idea of where they were born, etc.
We left the Society when it closed at 6:00 pm and caught a bus (not feeling like risking the tube lines in central London) to Covent Garden in the hope we could purchase reasonably priced tickets to Rigoletto. As we do not consider £165 a ticket reasonable we did not buy tickets.
Then Ruth's navigation failed. As we left Covent Garden Tom spied the Apple store and his eyes lit up! He is now at least one step closer to an Apple iPhone!!
We found the Covent Garden tube station and decided to take the stairs to the Piccadilly line, not realising that they were emergency stairs. A lot of other people were using them to go down, like us, or up the 193 stairs. Yet another example of the exercise one can get while using London’s public transport. At least we had no more detours so were back to the apartment in a reasonable time.

Pity about Rigoletto!
