Today we went to the hotel pool for a quick swim before breakfast and a full day of activities. This was our first exercise since the pool in Abu Dhabi apart from lots of walking and climbing up and down lots of stairs.

After breakfast we were taken on an informative coach tour of Edinburgh before attending a recital by a soprano (Joan Rogers), baritone (Roderick Williams accompanied by Roger Williams on piano in The Queen's Hall.  The venue has been well converted from a church and has good acoustics.  This was an enjoyable event.

On to lunch at Prestonfield, a remarkable hotel in Edinburgh with well renowned restaurants.  We were greeted with wine and canapés on the lawn before going in for a three course lunch accompanied by plenty more wine.  Before we left we were taken on a tour of the hotel through its beautiful old, suitably furnished public rooms.

After we had a short rest we went downstairs for the welcome reception and, it turned out, another large meal.  There were plenty of drinks and canapés at the reception so it was fortunate dinner was a buffet and we could take as much, or as little, as we wanted.

After such an arduous day we were pleased to retire early.
