We left Bucknell at 09:00, early for us. We did not take a direct route, instead making a slight detour to Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire. This castle has been lived in by the Berkeleys for about 900 years with only a few exceptions, generally when they had displeased the reigning monarch. Though they didn't seem to lose their heads as other members of families out of favour did. It was pleasing to see signs of the rooms being used instead of it just being a museum.
We continued the long drive to Hayling Island, arriving at Roger and Jenny's home about 17:00 for a quiet evening; a drink at the local pub, the Royal Oak, then a delicious home cooked meal.
