We decided to wake up when we felt like it rather than rushing around too much on our first morning. The kids absolutely loved the hotel. Brodie felt instantly at home as he said "it smells like Grans house, I love it here" (it did have a lovely smell to the room!).

Anyway Madi had met a little friend on the balcony after tea that she hoped to see at breakfast but he didn't show up. The night before we left her alone on the balcony intently playing her DS, when we heard her yell. A stripy tail possum like creature had climbed through the bars and was looking right at her! It was very funny! Our balcony was looking right onto the rushing Merced river.

Well back to the morning! We headed into Yosemite at 10 am. The scenery was spectacular. First stop was Bridal veil falls. Half way up the short walk Brodie realized that shorts were not a good choice! I tried to tell him but wasn't up for a fight! It was very cold and the spray got us all quite wet. A lot of water was pouring over the all the falls compared to the summer when we have seen them before.

We then headed to the lower Yosemite Fall walk before going to the visitor centre where we got some information on more walks to do. After lunch we caught the free shuttle to the mirror lake walk/hike. This is about a 3 mile round trek which we finished as the day was ending.

We then hurried back to our car so we could go to Tunnel View for sunset. Although it was beautiful, the day was quite overcast and cool so the sunset wasn't as brilliant as we dreamed.

We went back to our 'home away from home' for some soup and toast for tea. The kitchen in the room was such a bonus, basic but all we needed. The kids went down for a swim in the indoor pool while Tom and I watched and sweated in the pool room! I then got to watch Grays Anatomy and Private Practice while lying in bed as Tom read. See, just like home!! I m hoping all this walking means this American food will have no effect on my dress size!! Fat chance!!!

Glad you are enjoying Yosemite, we loved it there and loved the Lodge. First time we walked in they were playing Elvis too.
If you see a fat bottomed squirrel trying to scab your food at breakfast say hi from us, we called him "Fat Butt". Have a go in the outdoor spa if you have time, lovely way to relax.
Have fun,
Rick & Yvonne
