Change of plan the route is now Liwonde national park, Cape maclear and then straight onto Lilongwe to wait for our flights.
Our first destination was Liwonde national park, and after a long national bus journey and a small minibus ride we got there. Nothing spectacular about the trip up just the fact i ended up using someones garden as a toilet and was interrupted mid flow and asked to move on. That's lolsers. We ended up landing on our feet with the accommodation and managed to get picked up by the owner from the local village centre, saved having to ride on the back of a bicycle with our heavy luggage, result.
This place was a strung together over a few years but has soon become paradise and just situated inside the national park. I had one aim at this camp and that was to see elephants, after a brief stroll with Peter the owner we came across a herd feeding and managed to sit up close to them for a good 30 minutes. Before leaving for Africa seeing elephants was probably the highest on my wish list so seeing them was absolutely amazing, what a day.
The next day we headed on an organized boat trip to see crocodiles, hippos and elephants on the river. We had success we managed to see everything which was great, scariest part was the shanty boat we were in, approaching a crocodile breeding ground trying to be silent softly softly until the engine cuts out and we find our self drifting towards the bay of crocodiles after hearing a story of jumping crocodiles, this was not good news. Luckily with a piece of string they managed to fire the bird up again, for some reason he forgot to use reverse and ended up putting in full throttle and nearly capsizing our boat crashing off the side of the bay and bouncing out to safety.
All this excitement was to much we headed back and had a great dinner and headed to bed to be up nice and early for our next trip out to the Lake.
Great start to the trip up.
