Friday 28th

HERE BEGINS THE EARLY RISING!!!!!! The sun is up by 6am and therefore so are we, our little sweat box is roasting and then we go for our early morning swim in the campsite pool. It is very refreshing because we slept very little. Then the rain starts it's pouring down and we just about have time to pack everything up before its 10am and time to check out. We are not sure what our plans are, all we know is that we are heading north. As we get closer to Port Doughlas we decide to keep driving north & go to Cape Tribulation. We arrive there about 12 after crossing the cutest river ever we went on a car ferry that worked off a pully system. We go for a stroll along the beach as we have time to kill because we are booked in to do the jungle surfing at 3. As we still have time left, Tom goes for a run in the real intense heat & he reckoned he nearly died as it was so hot he could not catch his breath. Then it was time for a quick ice-cream before we were collected to do the Jungle Surfing. There are 8 of us doing it together with 3 instructors, so we get strapped into our harnesses and each get a hard hat. So we had to climb up the side of a mountain to be fair it wasn't very far but it was steep. Basically one of the instructors goes first along the zip line, the first one isn't that steep it's just straight across from one platform to another with another instructor moving you along. The hard thing is when your sitting on the platform is to push yourself off and to trust that your harness is going to hold you. I've started to realise now how freaked out of heights I am. The next one we do is in pairs so one person must slide off and hang there while the other gets strapped in, your just hanging 20m over the rainforest. Of course Tommy wants me to go first so he can take a picture, so I just hang out there while he laughs at me and waits to get harnessed it and then we zip line over to the next platform. The next one you do in pairs again and this time Tom goes first and I follow half way over this zip line the instructor pauses you over the rainforest so that you can get the full benefit of how high you are. The fourth one is hard basically its an angled drop to the next platform and the instructor wants you to slide of the platform put your hands out and don't hold on to anything and just let the zip line take you, think I manage to let go for 2seconds and Tommy does it all the way. Then there's the last one, here the instructor lets you slip off the platform and then stops you straight away and now you must grab onto the rope turn yourself upside down and zip line to the other platform hanging upside down, again its hard to make your brain trust what you are doing, I manage to hang upside down but can't get my hands to let go, once again Tommy outshines me and does exactly what is asked off him. Then its over we both enjoyed it but there is alot of waiting around on platforms.

When we get back to the camper, Tom goes into the shop/chemist/doctors office/tourist office (all in one shop, class) to book a dive we have decided to do tomorrow on the Great Barrier Reef going from Port Doghlas. I start preparing dinner as we are heading back to Port Doughlas and hope to make it as far as possible before it gets dark. Once we've cooked dinner we begin our very curvy and bendy drive back down from Cape Tribulation and Tom is trying to get through the bad road ASAP and I don't blame him but you can tell from the way I'm clinging onto the handrail I don't trust our campervan yet especially after hearing stories of them toppling over but eventually we make it through and back onto big roads. We arrive in Port Doughlas around 8 it seems like a lovely little seaside town and its very busy but it seems to be a more older richer crowd. We are not going to pay for a camp site tonight so we spend awhile driving around trying to find the best place to park. Eventually we decide to stay around the Esplanade as there are other Wicked Vans parked there. First though we go up town so as not to be in the sticky van too early and go for a couple of drinks. On our second drink and while were planning our trip a fight breaks out between two guys over a t-shirt its quite funny to watch. It seems to us everyone is pissed then we see two coups wrestling a guy to the ground and putting him in a paddywagon 5minutes later the van is still there and he is fairly rocking its crazy. After two drinks we risk going back to the camper and going to sleep.

Saturday 29th

We manage to sleep till 6.40 then we have a lovely breakfast over looking the sea and then have a wash in the public toilets. After we head over to the Marina to park as we are jumping on a dive boat to go diving near the Anderton Reef which is way up the north of the Great Barrier Reef. The dive boat is massive and very luxiourous we must first fill up all the paperwork and then we get split up into groups, there is 8 certified divers Today we are going to do 3dives, for the first dive myself & Tommy and two others are paired with Matt dive instructor its a very good dive we see alot of different type of fish. For the second dive seven of us go together with Matt and before we jump in we can see about 4 sharks swimming along underneath the boat. They are white tipped sharks which are not dangerous but its scary jumping into water when you know there's sharks in there and then as your waiting for everyone to jump in I stick my head in the water and watch them swimming around. Again this is a good dive the coral and colours are amazing. The third dive we go with the girl instructor this is more of a wall dive as the current is very strong, it's only ok and is my least favourite of the dives. For all three dives I was very bad on air while Tommy was very good.

When we arrive back in Port Doughlas it is raining so we don't hang around we head back to Cairns.
