Where I stayed
We had a nice drive up from Denali - stopped at several view points and memorials. Didn't see any critters though. We ate breakfast at a local owned restaurant in Nenana called Rough Woods Inn and Cafe. Nenana is the center/hub for tug boat and barge traffic in the interior of Alaska. It is right on the Tanana and Nenana rivers.
We stopped at several view points and memorials enroute to Fairbanks. We rolled into the Rivers Edge RV park on the northside of Fairbanks early afternoon. The park is on the Chena River. Very nice park - we would highly recommend it. As always, the people we met there were very nice - everyone from park employees, other travelers, waitresses!
It was pouring down rain when we arrived but soon brightened up and we were able to take a walk around the park. Met a couple neighbors from N. Carolina. They have been traveling the states in their new motorhome since November - what an adventure they are having! People are here from all over the world. Very interesting. There is a group of 25 motorhomes from the states that we have seen/passed throughout our trip. They come from all over the lower 48 but are organized to take the same route. What planning that would take!
We played cards in the afternoon (Randy & Sandy were champions!) then for dinner we went to the Pump House Restaurant which Bruce highly recommended. The food and service was outstanding. It also sits on the edge of the Chena River.
The next morning it was raining again so we thought it would be a good morning to get some laundry done as there were excellent facilities at the park. After the laundry, it was time for our Riverboat Cruise. The weather cleared up just in time for our it!
We enjoyed the relaxing paddle boat ride down the Chena and Tanana Rivers. They showed us many sights along the way including Susan Butcher's dog sled team (she was the first women to win the Iditarod). She won the race 4 times and always came in in the top 10 finishers when she raced! Also included in the tour was a stop at a Alaskan Native cultural (Chena Indian) village. It was very informative. Everyone there was very knowledgeable. We would recommend the tour if you get to Fairbanks. Interesting stuff.....hard to believe how they survive the severe weather!
We later ate at the Chena River Cafe which is at the RV park. Again very nice and we enjoyed every bite!
We played cards until 1AM........guess who won!?? Linda taught us a new game we hadn't played before....I guess it was beginners luck!
At midnight it was still very light outside and Tom got a beautiful shot of the sky.......please note this was at midnight! Still trying to get used to this daylight for 22 hrs. of the day!
Glad we made the trip to Fairbanks. Thank you, Bruce, for the use of the motorhome - made the trip very enjoyable!
Tom, Sandy, Linda and Randy
Best wishes to all! Thanks for following our journey!

I'd play cards until 1 AM too, if I had to sleep in the overhead (or on the breakfast table)! Ha! Pix are gorgeous!!! Can't wait to see them all when you get home. Travel safe. In the meantime, hugs 'n prayers go with you.
What a great trip your having. Enjoyed your "commentary" Sandy. Pictures are great. Just wondering where your going to store all the things you buy at these stores ha. Bruce must be doing a super host job and his motorhome looks great. Been raining here off & on ever since you left. G&J
Glad to hear you doing well. I love the pictures - they are beautiful.
You guys better bring back at least ONE thing for AK!
Hi Hartzler & Hartzler - Just getting caught up on the blog....finally! What a trip! Especially loved your updates through Canada. :) Stay safe and see you in Happy Valley! We'll be ready for the slide show. And for Hartzler to remind me that I'm "not getting any younger!".
Sounds like you're having a great time. If you have time while in Fairbanks you should check on going up to Pt. Barrow. I found it really interesting. Also, you might want to check out Chena Hot Springs. Watch out for the moose when traveling on Chena Hot Springs Road.Wish I was there!
Whitton & Murph - we will have the slide show ready for you at Happy Valley! It's been quite a trip and appreciate you following us. See you soon!
Sue, sorry we didn't get your comment in time and I didn't get to talk to you enough before we left - we didn't get to Pt Barrows!! I understand why you've been up here several times as there is so much to see. It would take many visits and you still wouldn't see it all!
Great entry, the more ya write the more me like, and I think you should stick around so you can take another picture of Randy and sled sitting on some snow, with minus fifty temp and little daylight!
Good seeing some miles being put on the RV and someone enjoying it.
