Halong Bay Tour - Day Two
Up very early as we were woken at 6.45am for kayaking. In a double kayak we paddled around and up close to the limestone islands and saw numerous caves. After an hour we returned to the boat for breakfast and headed to Cat Ba Island, the largest in Halong Bay. Here we got on a bus and crossed to the north of the island for trekking. The trek started pretty tame but after a while we were scrambling up steep sections of limestone cliff-face. Views from the first peak were impressive, after scrambling down and across a ridge we climbed another peak up a pretty much non-existent path. Views over the Cat Ba to the south and Halong Bay to the north were awesome.
Cat Ba Island is the only inhabited island in Halong Bay so next we got back on the bus and headed for our hotel in Cat Ba town for lunch. In the afternoon we had a walk along the shoreline with ice creams. Marvelous.
