We arrived in Puerto Montt and took the bus to Puerto Varas to start our journey through the Chilean Lake District. Puerto Varas is a small sleepy town on the shores of Lago Llanquihue, with Volcan Osorno on the horizon and surrounded by a few National Parks. We were tempted to try
out the rafting here but were told to save it for Peru, canyoning was out as the guides had all left as it was low season. So we visited the falls near Petrohue and Lago Todos Los Santos and then decided to pass the time with some Spanish lessons – much needed since the crash course
in B.A. was now a distant memory.
