Casa Buena Vista

Today we hiked Manuel Antonio, a very pretty national park full of animals, rivers and tropical plants (totes jungle). Casa Buena Vista has a great view of the park and is only a short hike away. Just walked down the hill and along the beach and we arrived at the park. We had been told that there would be a rowboat that would charge us $1 to ferry us across the river near the park. As it turns out, when we arrived we were able to take off our socks and shoes and ford the 3 foot wide 6 inches of raging rapids that we found. People were actually paying a dollar to walk across rowboats that spanned either side of the trickle. Once we made it past that eXtreme river we put our socks and shoes back on, only to promptly discover that we were at the park exit. so we forded the river once again and found the entrance. The park was wonderful! (see the following entry for a list of animals seen there).
There was an issue with a gang of rabid racoons, but Jenny survived and Tom was very nice about not making fun of her. To quote him "if you are actually crying I wont tease".
Upon leaving the park we discovered why tourist would pay to use the boats... and paid $1 each to be rowed across the huge deep lake that the high tide had created at the exit...
Turns out we needn't have bothered anyway seeing as that same tide forced us to slog through hip deep ocean water to make it back along the beach to our hotel. Its cool though, it was raining so hard at that point that we probably would have gotten the same amount of wet if we had paid attention to the tides :)
