Hello from Cancun/Shagaluf…... I mean Surfers Paradise,

Surfer Paradise is the location where 1950’s surfer dudes would come to surf and play in the paradise like waters and backdrop. Nowadays it is a 18-30’s party destination engulfed with high-rise buildings, massive nightclubs and smuttish locals… not such a paradise anymore. For most travellers this is the reason you come here, join one of the backpacker club crawls, get drunk, get laid and do it all over again. I guess if you are a single 18 year old lad you really would find in Paradise, but for couples… maybe not. As mentioned above this gave Surfer’s Paradise quite a trashy feel and we could only describe as looking a bit like Cancun (because of all the great shopping, bonus if you have money) but with the 18-30’s nightlife of Magaluf, the ultimate lads or girls holiday for Aussie‘s!

We had not come to Surfers Paradise to get drunk and sleep with a stranger (unfortunately). We decided to stop here to visit the renowned beach and celebrate to the day, being away for 6 months on our round the world trip, by going to DreamWorld; Australia’s largest theme park. As we have both been lucky enough to go to Florida we were a little dubious about visiting a theme park in another country, but throwing all past experience aside we went to have plain good old fun. We will be honest that by the time we got round to the 3rd ride we thought we had made a huge mistake as the rides so far were pretty poor, I mean I have been on better one’s at Southend!!!

But then it was time to ride The Tower of Terror II, one of the fastest rollercoasters in the world. As we were lining up we immediately got that adrenaline rush and the nerves started to set in, this is the sort of feeling that you get only in Florida! As Hollie is a self-renowned rollercoaster professional her palms were stone dry, whilst mine were dripping wet, again labelling me as the wimp! As soon as we sat in the seats we knew we were on a proper ride and this is the reason we had came! Reaching up to 280km backwards, and then flying back down again we screamed all the way. Fellow this link to see the ride (www.youtube.com/). We then went on The Big Drop which is one of the largest vertical drops in the world before going over the White Water World, the attached water park.

One of the best, if not the best things about holidays to Florida are the water parks. So that afternoon we were allowed to be rather large big kids again and run around the water park running to the various slides and water coasters. If you would of seen us you wouldn’t have thought we were 24, honestly! After a few hours we went back to the theme park to ride Tower of Terror II a few more times before getting the bus back to Surfer’s Paradise. All in all our day at the theme park and water park was a lot of fun and brought back some great memories of Florida (and now we can‘t wait to go back). It was also nice just to relax, not have to worry about budgets, travelling plans, thoughts about home, jobs, life etc etc.. just good old plain fun!!!

Love from your two big kids Thomas and Hollie x x x
