Where I stayed
Hello everyone,Firstly sorry for not updating you for a while.
Anyway, after leaving Noosa we arrived in Brisbane and were staying at the great Base Backpackers Hostel…..not!!! For anyone that is looking to go travelling we strongly suggest that you stay away from the Base chain hostels. They have no personality, the staff are downright rude and ignorant, and the kitchens and bathrooms are dirty; no matter what country you are in. We only stayed here as it was the cheapest we could find and closest to town!!!
We were in Brisbane for 5 nights, 3 nights too long!!! This is no fault of the city but because of the recent Queensland floods a lot of the tourist attractions were damaged and ultimately closed. However, we tried to fill our days with visits to The Botanical Gardens, The Secret "Sub-Tropical" Gardens, and The South Bank. Unfortunately most of The South Bank was largely damaged in the floods meaning the inner-city beach and swimming pools were closed. However, to drum up some business the council had put on free activities throughout the day including games on the lawn and a free open air cinema in the evenings. We visited this on two occasion's and watched Alice In Wonderland and Where The Wild Things Are, all under the stars!!! Again our thoughts turned to home as we wondered why we couldn’t do this in England?!?!? (The weather, no one would turn up, the council has no money, it would probably break some stupid law/policy…..)
The rest of the days were spent in MacDonalds using up the free internet and updating the blog. All in all Brisbane was just a little bit boring we’re afraid. Bring on Surfers Paradise!!!
Love Thomas and Hollie xxx
