Where I stayed
Kroombit Cattle Ranch
Howdy Partner,
After a day’s rest off the boat we got back on the OZ Experience bus and headed to a lesser known place called Kroombit. Here we would be visiting Kroombit Cattle Ranch, a traditional active cattle ranch nestled in 1000 acres of Queensland outback. Before arriving at the ranch we had little expectations and didn’t know what lay ahead for the next 2 days. Once arriving we soon realised that we were going to learn how to become Ringers (Australian Cowboy and Cowgirls).
During our nights stay we had a venison roast which had been farmed on the ranch and been cooking underground all day, delicious. Once dinner had gone down nicely it was time for some activities. Task 1 was to learn to ‘crack the whip’. Both me and Hollie learnt how to produce that sonic boom with perfection, even though its much harder than it looks and in the morning both our wrists were bruised! Task 2 was the mechanical bull. The boy and girl who stayed on longest would win a party bus for Sydney…..I won with 15 bucks with the bull. Hollie wants to assure you that she did manage to stay on the bull for 13 bucks, however, there is no video evidence of this!!! Just watch the video to see Hollie’s 1st and 2nd attempts (no one can say she doesn’t mind making a fool of herself…please enjoy).
In the morning it was time for our 3rd Task. First we learnt how to Lassos goats. Before doing this for real in our rodeo we had time to practice on a cow carcass. Once practice was over we then entered the ring and were timed how long it would take us to catch our chosen goat with the lasso. Again not sure how Hollie would fare as a real cowgirl as this video demonstrates. If only I had the Benny Hill theme tune to go with it!!!
Enjoy, I laughed for days.
