From Peru we took a bus to the Bolivian border and our first destination was Copacabana (like the song). Once again, we are glad that we are not Americans as the ‘reciprocal’ visa fees to enter each country in South America are over a $100 a time. Copacabana is nestled between two hills on the southern shore of Lake Titicaca. Lake Titicaca is the highest and largest navigable lake in the world (3820m). This is regarded as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, with the colour a deep sapphire and with a never-ending horizon. Copacabana is the launching pad for visiting Isla del Sol and was meant to be a pleasant stop-over between Puno and La Paz…..unfortunately we got food poisoning and spent 2 days in bed! On the third day we made the boat journey across to Isla del Sol with a group of other travellers we had met previously in Peru.
