My second journey to "incredible Hindustan" (better known as India) was long overdue.
The first trip I did was anno 1982, and at that time, I just touched the southernmost tip of the
country.I therefore wanted to see a different India, both in time and also geographically.
Together with my girlfriend I boarded a Jet Airways flight from Bangkok to Kolkata, and we
were quite pleasantly surprised, how efficient, almost  perfect, the flight turned out to be,
when I thought that this was just another Indian budget airline!Upon arrival, we were
both screened by local nurses for the H1N1 virus;once we passed this test,we got our
entry stamp, welcome to 7 weeks of backpacking in Incredible India!
With a yellow taxi (same colour as in New York, but different shape) we drove to Howrah Hotel,
an old colonial structure just behind the huge train station with the same name, and a short
walk from famous  Howrah bridge. Here the chaotic India lives up to its name, its an endless
line of yellow taxis, trucks loaded with tons of merchandise, and even pedestrians carrying
heavy things on their head,we have even seen office desks and entire beds.
Under the bridge is a very lovely Flower market, but its recommended to wear good shoes
in the rainy season. The next stop is the "Sisters of Charity" mission where Mother Teresa is buried in a simple tomb, and its even possible to visit her private room where she has been living for so many years, an impressive site. The small museum shows the humble life of her, starting withher youth in Albania, her departure from the Balkans to Ireland, and consequently her
assignment to India were she has been spending the rest of her life to help the poorest
of the poor.
The Teej restaurant at Russel street offers great Rajasthani food with a Haveli feeling,
it became quickly our favourite spot..
