Took the train to Shin-Osaka and change to the local train to go to Kobe station. At Kobe station I had to back up one station to Sannomiya station, because that is actually the center. In fact I could've just taken the Shinkanzen to Shin-Kobe which is really close to the hotel.
My first impression of Kobe is a little disappointing. I thought it would be nicer, cozier. It is beautifully set in the mountain and you can do wonderfull trekking here and see right down to the ocean. But appart from that its only got a little chinatown and the bay area to see.
I wanted to take the cable car to a herb garden and a good view, but its closed for renovation :(
So I trekked behind the station up the hill to a waterfall before returning to the hotel. Check-in times are usually in the afternoon (2 or 3pm). Check out is always at 10am which makes it hard after staying out late. In Japan people really start to go out at around 23pm. Before that they have a long dinner - and get pretty drunk while doing so :)
The hotel I stayed in was called the Green Hill Hotel at around 4600yen with a nice hot shower and TV (only japanese though).
In the evening I met a couple of japanese girls (Aska and Hiroko) and wet talked till late trying with little english and they taught me a few japanese sentences.

Left Kobe at 10am and took the shinkanzen to Hiroshima.
