Where I stayed
Fatima's Chalets
2010-10-07:
After the bus ride we got of in Jeteh and took a taxi with the couple from Netherlands to Kuala Besut. There I got the ferry ticket to Pulau Perhentian Kecil 70RM return which left after about 15min. Checked straight into a nice little chalet at the beach at Fatima's Chalets for 30RM with inside shower and toilet. Walked up and down the quiet beach, arrange some diving for the next day and went snorkeling near the beach.
Had a nice thai pizza and chatted with two english couples all night with lots of beer :)
2010-10-08:
Went diving in the morning to the Sugarwreck, a sunken freight ship of about 90m length. It was quite nice, going deep into the ship's caverns where there's trapped air (and a whisky bottle?!?), saw a small shark, lots of fish swarms, cuttlefish, a huge barracuda inside the ship and some strange fish which looks like a bundle of shells.
After that I took a stroll across the island to the Long beach, had some lunch there and finished my book. Met Thomas, a guy I met in Pinang, so we'll meet up for a drink tonight.
When I came back I notice a monitor lizard staying at my chalet, or rather under and in front of it, feeding on insects, probably big ants :)
He's not really that scared and came back after running away first. There's also grey squirrels and flying foxes rummaging around in the trees and roofs. Nice jungle island feeling :)
In the evening I had a great meal (3 rock lobsters, blackpepper sauce, rice, baked potato, coleslaw, melon) for 18RM (4,50€). Delicious! Joined Thomas and 3 other germans for the meal and then went to the bar to have a couple of cans Tiger.
2010-10-09:
Went on another dive this morning to a small wreck. Diving into the small cramped wreck was great and it had a school of big barracudas in it :)
Outside of the wreck I saw a couple of poisonous scorpion fish and uncountable stingrays burried in the sand. I picked up a couple at the back of their tails and they go swimming off. Don't want to touch it in the middle though where the poisonous sting is :)
Decided to leave on the next day, so I had to get my packing done, went out for another nice BBQ grilled lobster set :)
