We decided to see another part of Hong Kong today and to escape the city heat. We took the subway to Tung Chung to a cable car ride to see Big Buddha! We figured it was a good addition to our 'Largest & Tallest' collection from our trip. Tian Tan Buddha is one of the largest seated Buddhas in the world. How could we not see it?
The line to the cable car was long but it was worth the wait! The 25 minute ride was BEAUTIFUL through the mountains with ocean views. The day was crystal clear and I think it is one of the prettiest views I have ever seen. All through the mountain there was a walking trail (5 hour hike) that is now on our to do list...it was amazing.
The Buddha was impressive! A 260 step climb up was well worth it. We ate lunch in a local monastery park and then took a bus to a one of the few remaining traditional fishing villages. With rows of stilt houses on the waterfront, it was a real view into Old China. We took a local boat from the village to see white dolphins swimming in the South China Sea! Claire was beside herself and we were all treated to seeing many dolphins diving and jumping. It was a sight we won't ever forget.
So, it is the end of our journey. We fly home tomorrow. We want to thank you all for following our journey and sending emails and comments! Each one was appreciated.
I am sure no one wants to see any more Davis family pictures so the next one you will see will be our Christmas card!
See (some) of you at home!
