In planning our trip to Leizhou, we were surprised to learn that dogs were part of the cities' history. So, we headed out to the park with the dog statues. Leizhou is a bustling city, smaller than Huazhou but with the same vibrancy. It felt like a new city with lots of development and growth. Here are some of the sights we saw on our way to the park.
The park was beautiful and at the end of it was an enormous pagoda.
As we entered the park, we saw a small museum with the dog statues.
Connie told us that the ancient peoples held the dogs in high regard and thought they brought good fortune and good babies. So instead of the typical lion statues at the door, dog statues were used. Connie decided to call Claire 'Doggy Girl" because she was our lucky baby!
Much to our surprise, the Pagoda was open and we CLIMBED to the top! Amazing views of the city- it was hot, a little scary, but so worth it.
