What I did
First things first... we all enjoyed our first outdoor pool swim in 5 weeks!
Our guide booked our room at the BEAUTIFUL Garden Hotel; little did we know this is the 'new' adoption hotel so you can imagine my joy when we went to breakfast this morning and saw some families with their new babies & toddlers! I don't think I even ate breakfast, I was too busy visiting tables and offering my congratulations! I am so glad the girls got to see how it was when we met them. Michael thinks my next career should be as Guest Experience Manager.
The sad reality of the adoption scene is that the numbers are WAY down with only 1-2 families coming to adopt a week, compared to our group of 30 and 10 families traveling for L&C in 03 and 05. We also noticed the babies were older and all 'special needs'. It was incredibly heart warming to see these babies with their new families. It all brought back so many wonderful memories.
At noon we reunited with Connie, our guide for both our adoption trips!
After lunch we took the girls to Shamian Island, home of the White Swan Hotel, where we stayed for both our adoption trips. The White Swan is still under construction but it was very special to walk the streets of this quaint oasis.
One of the shopkeepers remembered us since he is also from Lane's birth city! His shop was still there but since the Westerners are no longer coming to Shamian Island, his business has suffered. Dong was so gracious to us and after we bought some things, he served us tea.
