Hey everyone ... here is the day 5 road trip report...and what a ride it was .

Got up at 6:30 and had the same breakfast that most Best Westerns serve across the countries ... rasin bran, watered down coffee and toast ... don't get me wrong ... it's not bad it just doesn't keep you going for long.

We started out on the 97 south towards california  ... this didn't take long as we were at the state line in about 15 minutes ... what was weird was that there was a check point set-up for every vehicle entering the state ... no they weren't checking for dope ... they were worried about people bringing fruit into the state ... Whatever!

Anyway ... about 9:30 we decided to stop in Weed (no I'm not pulling your leg) california for breakfast in a diner called the Hi-Lo (a historical site by all accounts).  This was highly recommended by the chick in the Shell gas station but quickly fell out of favour ... you don't need the details.

From here I had planned to take the back roads through the mountains based on the research I had done prior to the trip ... the lady in the Shell station recommended taking the I-5 south to Redding and then the scenic 299 into Eureka ... this posed a small problem as the route I had planned had a couple of small differences ... Redding was south and my route was north.

After some careful deliberation we decided to go with the original plan and head north then west over the mountains ... let me start by saying that this quickly turned into a bit of a problem as the GPS had no idea where we were going ... never mind offer up some good suggestions on how to get there.,...(Shell now takes over the typing)...GPS was suggesting we take roads that didn't exist and Todd was suggesting we take road the GPS said didn't exist....we went with the roads Todd saw on the net as suggest routes for bikes. (note picture where Todd is leaning over the bike fighting with the GPS).

We headed towards Gazelle, which was to take us over the mountains.....this was the beginning of the adventure. We left the little town of Gazelle looking for Callahan but the GPS told us the road didn't exist...the biker on a  10 speed told us we were going in the right direction. So we took the road on faith.......we found Callahan and then went on to Forks of Salmon....the ride was amazing...but we had to pass through Cecilville first....population 50 people...we thought we took a wrong turn because it looked like we were riding through someone's back yard. We turned around and asked a local (the only guy left on the dirt turn off after the others left in the truck with the confederate flag hanging out the window..not kidding) and he said we were going the right way....road goes down to one lane but we could get through.  We turned around and went back the way we started.  This was the craziest road you have ever seen. Hairpin turns, 100 sheer drop off the side, gravel on the road......and all one lane or LESS....not kidding. Pictures will give you some idea. I could have taken more if I wasn't afraid to move on the back of the bike. Not quite a Harley ride but Todd's bike made it much easier.  Have to say it was worth every minute. The scenery was amazing and not sure how else we would have see it. I'll post one of the video's where the road is a little wider but the oncoming car made things a little tricky. LOL.

We're spending the night in Eureka, California and tomorrow we're off to the Redwood Forest.

Hope you enjoy the photos.
