I had read about Jericoacoara (Jeri) for years as it has become one of the top windsurfing destinations in the world. When I planned my trip, I was certain that Jeri would be a stop that I wouldn't miss. When we arrived in Jeri after a 35 hour bus ride, it was just what we were looking for. Upon our arrival we were welcomed by several locals who hooked us up with all of the essentials - cheap place to live, windsurfing rentals, and the lay of the land. Arriving just before sunset, we were able to relax on the beach and watch the beautiful site as the sun lowered into the water.

Jeri is a magical place. There are only 3 streets all of which are sand. There are restaurants and bars scattered within the small village and everyone there is living in a dream in paradise. From beautiful sunsets that go right into the water, to beautiful green/turquoise water that fills the bay, to capoeira dancing in the evening and forro dancing at night, I have never been in a place where I have felt more content.

Each day, I would go windsurfing in the afternoon. Afterwards, I would watch the sunset, chill on the beach, watch capoeira and then go to dinner. After dinner at about midnight the nightlife would liven up. Often times it would begin right on the beach where everyone would set up drink stands serving all sorts of Brazilian cocktails with fresh fruits. Everyone would congregate there and I would run into people I had met during the day or a previous night. Each night there was a party in a different location which frequently ended by watching the sunrise on the beach or the dune with people from around the world. Magic...

While I was there, I ended up meeting a Brazilian girl who ended up being my girlfriend for the 2.5 weeks I was there. Her name was Alicia and she was a lot of fun to enjoy such an amazing place and experience with. Among other people I met were some fun Irish, British and Portuguese girls as well as some really amazing Brazilian and Swiss guys, cool Argentinian windsurfers, ahh, the list goes on...

My final night, I was out with Dominik (Switzerland) and two English girls (Amy and Sarah). The sun was rising and we decided to climb the dune to watch the sunset. It was one of the most beautiful sites I have ever seen. I truly felt like I was living in a dream. I distinctly remember thinking to myself that I have never been happier in my life as I sat there with my feet covered with sand, wind blowing through my hair and sun slowly rising to begin yet another magical day in a place I have grown to love. I couldn't have imagined a better way to complete my time there.
