January 05 - Dubai - Jumeriah Hotel - Desert Safari
Today is a big day! Me, Ahmed, and Ali are going to go on a Desert Safari. Apparantly they pick you up (at 3pm) and take you out on the desert for dune buggy riding and a bunch of other activities that keep you occupied. First thing this morning I took a taxi to Jumeirah Beach hotel which is shaped like a wave and is in front of the Burj al Arab (The one that looks like a sail). I am actually having a cappuccino in an indoor café here and I was able to take some nice pictures. However, they don't let you go all the way out on the beach unless you pay them $120 for a day pass...ouch! So, I will take as many nice pics as possible and maybe hit this place up again in the evening when it opens up for free after 7pm. I was going to attempt and say a room number but I was too late in answering, lol.
Chris is coming by in a bit to pick me up so we can go do some lunch. We headed out to a restaurant called Bazarkhan in the JBR district. Ok, if I were to move out here, JBR is where I would want to live. Well, either that or the Marina, simply awesome! The restaurant was a Lebanese restaurant and recommended by Ahmed, well... it kinda sucked. The Service was horrible and way too overpriced. The only redeeming thing about the place was that the Shisha guy was very friendly. After lunch Chris dropped me off where Ahmed and Ali were staying and we all took a cab to the Capital Hotel to get picked up for the desert safari.
The safari was awesome! Basically they take you out to the middle of the desert and drive you around on the sand dunes. It was basically a 20 minute amusement ride that I recorded. Once I get back in the States I will post the video (internet connection is slow here) but I have posted a bunch of pics to show you the view. Honestly it was an amazing experience and one that I think everyone should have. To see the vastness of the desert is simply incredible, and here I am in the middle of it... for recreation. After they took us out for this sand ride, we got dropped off in a sort of 'rest area' that had a stage in the middle with a bunch of tables around it. Then on the edge of this area were some shops and places to get food from, all part of the cost ($80). I got to take some cool pictures and the really amazing aspect of it was that you could see the stars clearly; I tried to take some pics that would turn out. After everyone ate they had a Belly Dancer perform on the stage and then around 8pm we all headed back. We got dropped back off at the Capital Hotel and met us with Ahmed's Uncle for some food. Ali was so tired that he actually passed out on the ride back to the hotel, hahahah. Ali and his Dad then went home and Ahmed and I took a taxi to the Address Hotel since we heard it was supposed to be awesome. Unfortunately we were way underdressed because we had our desert safari clothes on but the place looked awesome. We are going to try and hit it up the next few days we have left.
So we went back to the apartment and as soon as I walked in guess what I saw, a little kitten that Chris bought for Huda today! It was the same Scottish Bull that we saw a few days ago, super cute!
