Ready to get out of the city
It's been one big adventure in a new city where you don't speak any of the language, but I'm ready for a break. We went to the Cairo museum today. We were prepared with a small pocket book that explains the exhibits because we were forewarned that most of the pieces are not labelled, labelled without any description, or labelled in a different language (not necessarily Arabic). The book we bought had numbers which were supposed to correspond with the numbers on the cases, but they didn't. It became more of a search for this piece game. I was very disappointed when we reached the mummy section, they wouldn't let us in unless we paid another 100 pounds which is more than we paid to get into the museum. Luckily there were many mummies on exhibit that we did not have to pay to see and most importantly the Tutankhamen exhibit was included in the museum price (his mummy was in the section we had to pay for again). After awhile it just feels like people in Cairo are trying to scam you at every turn. They charged us 8 pounds for water which is a 300% mark up and the girl in the bathroom tried to charge me to use the bathroom. I can't wait to get out of Cairo tomorrow before my pessimism starts affecting my trip.
