Where I stayed
Now that we have accustomed ourselves to Greek driving - we decided to rent a car and see the island! First stop - the famous black beach - over 5 km long - and really black! The tour guides say to not where white bathing suits if possible...
Then through the windy roads to an incredible cafe on a cliff that literally was at the end of a long dirt road! We headed out to see the red beach - but only made it so far - the "climb" seemed treacherous - you'd never see this in Canada! I am sure they lose tourists each year. Off to the lighthouse (again - no fencing, nothing!) - one wrong step and you are falling hundreds of metres to the sea!
Our hotel has amazing canopy beds by the pool - so while the girls slept - Mo and I headed to Kamari to visit the underground winery for a tour and tasting. Quite interesting - but the girls would have died of boredom.... After a little respite by the pool, we headed off to Oia for dinner at the port. OMG - the driving was terrifying... So many turns on the narrow 2 way roads that have a cliff on one side and sheer rock on the other - we reached the crazy port - where Maureen had to get out and direct traffic to let us through... 3 restaurants clung to the side of the mountains with fresh fish - so fresh - you could see it!! (check out the swordfish - which we ate!)...
Luckily the girls fell asleep as we took the hair raising ride back - in the pitch dark!!!! But we made it home safely and enjoyed the day immensely...
