Friday 18th October - Day 25

We'd been warned that withdrawing money in Argentina wasn't simple and that we should take out American dollars in Brazil that we could then exchange in Buenos Aires for pesos. Our planning is normally spot on but not on this occasion. With 45 minutes until our bus left for BA, I found myself sprinting down Iguazu high street looking for an ATM with the 32 degree heat making things pretty difficult. I was rewarded with an 'insufficient funds' message when I finally found one - our money transfer hadn't gone through yet.

In comparison to the morning, our afternoon on a very empty Brazilian bus was comfortable and relaxed! We'd met up with our cheeky Irish travelling buddy Sean, who'd already been on a bus for 15 hours, and began the overnight journey.

Saturday 19th October - Day 26

I awoke to a sense of de ja vu. On the last long haul bus journey Kelly had stealthily stole my sleeping bag during the night and sure enough I once again awoke feeling as though I was in an air-conditioned Arctic tundra.

There was only one thing to do having arrived on a Saturday, sample the BA nightlife. Mid-range bottle of red wine purchased (2) to accompany our huge steak dinner, and we were ready for the night. We'd been advised that Palermo was the place to go on a Saturday so jumped in a taxi only to be dropped in a place that was admittedly very busy, but had absolutely no power. Three hours and a few litre bottles of beer by candlelight later, we thought the night needed a tempo change. When, on entering the first bar, we found a large crowd being entertained by a Argentine transvestite the gay pride festival flashbacks came thick and fast and we made a hasty exit. Fortunately, we struck gold at the second place (there was even a Kebab shop over the road for Pie Girl) and we danced the night away.

Sunday 20th October - Day 27

Hangover day!! Really not much to report here. I finished off our video and we went out for a meal in the evening. I had a pretty incredible T-Bone steak and chips (9) whilst Kelly opted for a smorgasbord of meat including chorizo, steak, rack of lamb and blackpudding all with a glass of wine for just 10.

Monday 21st October - Day 28

This morning we had a short walking tour of the city and learnt about the incredibly turbulent recent history Buenos Aires has had. Whilst browsing through cheap sunglasses in a touristy shop I had a bit of a bull in a china shop moment. I spotted a particularly nice pair of fake Ray Bans right at the top of the wall on which about 100 pairs of sunglasses were precariously hung. Stretching to get them, I must have knocked a pair that then set in motion a domino effect. It was raining sunglasses and before I knew it most of the wall was empty!

In the afternoon we got a bus to BA racecourse for a little flutter on the GG's. We returned a couple of hours later having blown the rest of our travelling fund so we'll be coming back tomorrow. Only joking, we lost 4 but had a great time!
