We had planned to visit some of the other sites of interest in Malacca before we leave for Singapore on Friday today, but the weather has turned very wet. The last couple of days, at about 4pm, we have seen the heavens open with a resounding crash of thunder and a deluge of water hit the streets of Malacca with a vengeance. Today, however, the storm came early and we decided to try and finish the books we are reading so that we can cut down on the weight of our luggage for the flight next week.

However, between the rain storms this morning, a Chinese funeral procession went along the street outside of the guesthouse with a noisy banging of huge drums and the blowing of trumpets. The owner of Twenty, Terry, told me that Chinese funerals are more elaborate the richer the person who has passed away was. The guy who's funeral it was must have been minted as it took five minutes for the procession to make it's way along the street. Blimey, I'm glad I'm not Chinese, because all I'd get when I die is a bloke with a harmonica, banging on an empty biscuit tin with a wooden spoon.
