I was getting ready for the departure on Friday afternoon so I could get to Gdansk by Monday. On Sunday night my friends from Poland - Olo and his father in law Grzesiek visited me for a couple of days as they wanted to import a bike or two from England. Everything was a bit hectic. I still had to put the pannier support rack on the bike, fabricate the jerry can 'baskets' and put the headlamp guard on. We were drinking some beers on Monday evening celebrating a purchase of a BMW 1200GS by Olo earlier that day, when I received a phone call from Dima enquiring whether I would be able to come to Gdansk not on Monday but 2 days earlier on Saturday morning. Apparently the ship was ahead of schedule. Fortunately Grziesiek had an appetite for a Honda Pan European what meant that they had to buy a motorbike trailer if they wanted to take two bikes back to Poland (leaving space for my little mule in the back of their van). The guys went back to the dealer in the north of England on Tuesday, purchased the Honda, took the BMW and managed to buy a used trailer for sth. like 200 pounds! They came back to Leicester on Wednesday noon, we loaded the Zebra into the van and off we went to Poland. We even managed to get back to Calais on the ferry at no extra charge despite of a fully loaded extra motorbike trailer and another passenger in the car (me) :). The journey carried on without any problems. A couple of full tank fills, several coffee breaks and tens of delicious sandwiches made by Olo’s mother in law and we were able to arrive in Poland on Thursday afternoon. In the evening we finally got to Dima’s place where we unloaded the bike and parked it in his garage next to his marvellous brand new BMW 1200 GS which looked like directly taken from a Touratech’s advertisement brochure! Olo and Grzesiek had to hit the road while me and Dima got engaged in a conversation accompanied by several Lechs. I’m ashamed to say I got a little pissed, even started drinking from his beer bottle but I can blame it on being tired after all these hundreds of kms spent in the car :) Finally there came time to get to bed (or into a sleeping bag in my instance). Next day I was going to ride to Bydgoszcz to visit yet another member of our team – Vlad.
