Having spent the entire night on the over night bus up to Leeds, the two of us were extremely tired. We arrived in Leeds at 4am and walked up towards my new University. Obviously, nothing was open at this holy hour; we couldn't even book into our bed and breakfast till 9am.
This was the first time in my life where I honestly had nowhere to sleep. So Jacques and I wrapped up and fell asleep in the university campus on a nice patch of grass close by the Glengarth Bed'n'breakfast.
By the time we checked in it was 11 o'clock and the Leeds Music Festival was about to start.
The Festival was during a big UK holiday called bank holiday and the festival was showcasing basically the biggest acts in the world. Pixies were my highlight of the day; during their performance the crowd went absolutely crazy. It was so cold people were just lighting uncontrollable fires left, right and center. Then the fire fighters would have to come along and put them out.
Ha, it was all fun and games thou. Tell you what, if you want to go to a crazy festival go to Leeds.
IT WAS MAD!!!
After the festival Jacques went home and I stayed on. I had arranged to stay with a friend of a friend called Erika but we made an error and she was down in London at the time.
So again, I found my self stranded on the streets of Leeds with nowhere to go. The bed and breakfast was full and it was getting really dark. I ended up setting myself up outside a bar with my bags and guitar ready to brace another night in the cold.
Later on that night people asked me to play guitar for them so I did and met some locals who knew the owner of the bar and they instantly took me in a gave me a job at the bar.
I couldn't believe my luck. I don't consider myself too religious but I believe their must be a God of some sort out there.
I did end up staying with Erika for five days when she got back from London. I worked the entire time.
A couple of days later the boarding house opened and I move in.
