The city where you can see the roman ruinJerash, the Roman city of Gerasa, is 50 kilometres north of Amman and is the one of the largest and best preserved sites of Roman architecture found outside of Italy. Although excavations began in the 1920s, more than 90% of this magnificent Roman city remains unexcavated. A great deal of the old city is under the foundations of the modern city of Jerash. Gerasa was one of the cities of the Decapolis - a group of ten Roman cities linked for economic benefit.
