we slept in and took our time because we knew the festivites started in san marco square at noon.
We donned our masks with matching eye makeup and started the long walk. It took us over half an hour cause it is so crouded today. when we got there a few minutes after noon we knew we had missed the guy coming down from the bell tower on a string thing. It would have been nice to know that we needed to get there early.

It wouldnt have mattered cause the police had blocked off every entrance to the square cause it was packed full. we could only just see crouds of people all with thier cameras in the air all pointed at something interesting.

Carrie and I waited in one of the dark streets. no one was moving much until everything was over then people were trying to get out and we were trying to get in. we went about 10metres in half an hour. the entire square was sardines. there was no escape. everyone was so tight and close and pushing. we couldnt do much of anything but get shoved around. it was almost comfortable. i didnt even have to bother standing cause the five people squishing around me on every side held me upright and just dragged me along.

it was really fun. some people werent so happy at getting shoved. i guess u wouldnt want to be claustrophobic or have any personal bubble issues but carrie and i had fun. we missed anyshows but we got into the sunlight of the square and moved about 20/30 metres and out of the square again. that took about an hour.

then we just walked away from the crouds as much as possible. there is still people everywhere but its better. we had a cheap kebab and some caffe and kept walking around with our masks on feeling very venetian.

It is such a fun festive atmosphere everywhere and lots of locals dressed up in all the get up down to thier shoes and lotsof children throwing confetti at you.

its 4ish in the arvo now and carrie and i needed a break then we will brave the crouds again. crazy!!!!!

I am glad i spent the money on the mask (even if i wont be able to pack it and have to lug it around for two weeks) and i am glad we nearly got squished to death in the square even though we had already missed all the cool stuff cause...
its all part of the venice carnivale experience!!

ran and power walked back to the rialto by myself to buy something again. it took an hour!!!
