Te Anau is what they call the walking capital of the world. There are heaps of amazing tracks through the beautiful Fiordland. The Milford track is thought to be the best walk in the world (I don't know how one can say that exactly but it's really supposed to be very nice) but it gets booked out months in advance so I decided to cut my way to my next destination, Queenstown, by cutting across the mountains instead of taking a bus around them for 200 km. I mean I walked the Routeburn track. And chose the only three rainy days in a two-week spell of sunshine. As almost always, the weather gods liked me and I walked every day in relatively good weather and it started pouring down just when I reached the huts. The landscapes were beautiful and the forest like in a fairytale.
